The initial contact from someone looking for Brown Eyed Photography wedding services is always exciting. When Holly and Jess’s email came asking about photography for their elopement to Vermont I was so excited. What an honor to be included in someone’s very very small ceremony. Holly and Jess were taking a week-long RV trip through Vermont and starting off their trip with their ceremony. They asked for recommendations on where to get married and in the end decided on Oakledge Park in Burlington.
I’ve lived in the Burlington area but not as a “real” person – just a student at St. Mike’s … so I’d never been to Oakledge. What a fun secret! Or at least to college students 🙂 There is a small beach, an Earth Clock, and a bike path that connects several rock outcroppings right on to Lake Champlain … and those were just the treasures we found as we meandered around on a beautiful fall day. As anyone knows who has had the pleasure of having a photoshoot with me, at times I find myself explaining the pros and cons of epidurals, the choice of college, the importance of a couple’s relationship over their actual wedding day, etc. I often apologize and hear: “no! keep talking!” so I do. On and on and on. Funny how like-minded people find each other.
It was no different with Holly and Jess – from that first email to the hug and congratulations before leaving them to enjoy the rest of their journey.
Their day was beautiful and the park was quiet. We found a rock – now “their” spot – to say their vows. Oh. And what perfectly honest and heartfelt vows they were. All while sharing their six month old chunk of adorable. Again, what a great honor to be invited to document such a commitment in such a private and beautiful location. Thank you both!
