As I was going through the pictures from the B Family’s latest shoot and contemplating which images to blog, I couldn’t resist sharing these. As the oldest of four, I remember always having a playmate (even when I didn’t want one!) and leaf fights are more fun than you can shake a stick (or a leaf) at! Rachel and Ken invited their parents and grandparents to be included in their shoot this year and as we made our way from one location on their farm to another, Ken’s mom started a leaf fight with the younger boys … and then backed out of the frame while the kids continued. We captured some sweet moments with a grandmother and her grandchildren in the leaves …. but we also got these fun action shots with big sister Grace showing her brothers how leaves will gently fall when you throw them in the air – and perhaps more importantly – how fun it is to throw leaves at each other!
I love being able to live in the moment with families and catch these spontaneous moments. The plan did not include a leaf fight when we made our way to a giant maple tree. The plan was to sit different combinations of family members under the tree. But who can resist loose leaves in the fall? And while the older three kids were really getting into the spirit of the leaf throwing, Rachel decided Baby J. shouldn’t miss out on the fun – even if he is more apt to stuff leaves into his mouth, rather than toss them with his siblings, he became the centerpiece for the leaf fight – big grin, concentrating on the leaves up to his belly, or looking to his parents to double check that everyone was still safe.
I don’t know if there’s any greater honor than to be invited back in to a family’s life year after year to capture their ever-evolving life. More from their photo shoot will follow – but first this treat of a moment!
