Senior Reps “represent” Brown Eyed Photography, spreading the love and details for our creative and individualized senior portrait photography.  In turn, senior reps enjoy a fun custom spring senior session, a post session design consult and 50 rep cards to hand out to friends (and a few more fun surprises along the way!).

We are only accepting a limited number of reps and are looking for seniors to represent Brown Eyed Photography at Plattsburgh High School, Saranac High School, and Peru High School, and other high schools in Clinton County and nearby areas.  Send your application in soon to increase the chance that there will still be a rep opening for your high school.

Rachel and Josh were the first to come for a fun rural engagement session at Woven Meadows. We were hmm-ing and haa-ing about postponing because it was cold and rainy and even if Rachel and Josh grew up in the North Country, they have their sights set on Florida for their first shared home after their wedding. They don’t like the cold.
But Josh heard the weather would be worse the next day (he was right, on April 22, it snowed) and everyone was too excited (or at least I was!) to delay their engagement session. The two braved the cold and rain and in exchange the rain paused during most of our session.

These two have approximately 3,272 things on their plate, including their upcoming school graduations, a big move, jobs, oh … and a wedding that will be here very soon! And through it all they are completely devoted to each other, clearly, and have oh-so-much-fun just being together. I can’t wait for their gorgeous wedding! Hearing all about their awesome detail-y planning is so exciting.

So shoot me an email, give me a call, yell really loud – whatever works, and let me know how many cards you’d like and I’ll ask design questions and we’ll get those cards to you pronto.

Cards come in sets of 24 and in three different size options to make them even more one-of-a-kind. I can’t wait to see what we create! And to have an excuse to chat with you again and see how the year has been and what your plans are for this summer and beyond!

After a year with Josh’s family we are ready to settle on our new farm, which we’ve christened Woven Meadows.

We’re having so much fun exploring our patch of earth with our photographer eyes as we make plans for beautiful photography sessions right out our front door. Rachel and Josh are the first to take advantage of this piece of the Adirondack Park beauty we now call Woven Meadows. Our farm website is in progress so feel free to check back – and in the meantime go like the farm on facebook!

Can’t wait to see Josh and Rachel this weekend!!

1. drink water leading up to the big day – as much as you can stand!

2. use sunblock religiously prior to your wedding (and always, right?) to avoid funny tan lines on your wedding day

3. wear a button down shirt as you get ready for your day … easier to take that off after your hair and makeup is ready than a shirt you have to lift over your head.

4. say “yes” to a professional makeup artist and hair stylist who specialize in weddings. Professional artists make a big difference on your wedding day. Arranging to have these artists come to you will be much more relaxing than coordinating transportation to and from a salon.

5. have a trial run with your makeup artist and hair stylist before your big day. Arrive to your trial appointments with your hair and makeup as you usually wear them. This will give the artists an idea of what your “every day” look is – the look we all love – and how to bump it to the next level – the wedding day awesome level. Even if you decide not to go with a professional makeup artist, it’s still worth doing a trial run.

6. keep makeup simple and classic. You want to look back at these images in 20 years, 50 years, and see how gorgeous you were – not be distracted by trendy makeup.

7. two words: waterproof mascara. I’m not saying you’ll cry … but you might and it’s a long day where you want make up to stay in tip-top shape the whole time.

8. remember to touch up throughout the day: right before you walk down the aisle, right after the ceremony, right before the reception starts

9. smile! This is likely the day you will be photographed the most in your entire life, assume that someone is taking a picture of you at any time (we’re not the only ones holding cameras on your big day )

10. relax. In the end, it’s your day – the good, the hiccups, and the rain. It’s what makes your day YOURS and unforgettable.

We’re FIVE days into the new year and I stumbled upon this awesome blog post over on Huffington Post.

Every one of the ten resolutions listed for the newly engaged I found myself saying: “Yes! Oh, that one is good too!”

The very first resolution listed: “Resolve to not lose sight of the Day After the Wedding” is something I say to every couple I meet with for a pre-wedding consultation. I talk about how we want to work with couples who are invested in their wedding day and are enjoying their planning process AND are even more invested in their marriage. We feel love for each couple we work with and want more than anything for our couples to have long happy marriages – years of looking back on their beautiful images and remembering the day that they promised to stay together in good times and bad.

I also love the resolution: “Resolve to Celebrate who you guys both are“. Weddings tend to follow a pattern: get ready, ceremony, formal pictures, reception. What makes photographing weddings so incredible is seeing how each couple personalizes their wedding. Michael and Arik used pinwheels instead of bouquets, Kelly wore green shoes under her stunning dress and the Pat wore argyle socks, Rachel and Justin cut their wedding cake with a sword! It’s usually in the details that we find the uniqueness and it enriches our feeling of friendship for each of our couples. We love finding details that say: “oh, that’s sooo them!”

We’ve had an awesome year as we made the transition to Vermont. We continue to feel honored with every wedding we’re part of, every new baby we have the pleasure of capturing in their newness, and every senior who shines with the anticipation of an unknown future. We love this life and we’re so thankful to all of you for your love and support as we pursue our photography passion daily.

We hope you all have a wonderfully warm and happy family filled holiday!

We can’t wait for the year to come – continuing to document the lives we’ve already touched and meeting new friends all year long through our work.
