Catherine contacted me about a month ago to ask about a maternity session after she fell in love with her images from her last pregnancy. Since her last pregnancy we’ve moved … far away. But thankfully we have plenty of weddings booked in the RI area and I was happy to offer to come down to RI for a maternity session on a Sunday after a wedding in Southern MA. It was a thrill to see Catherine again and her daughter who is now 14mos old!

Jack is a big brother! Welcome Will!

I was thrilled to hear from Rebecca to let me know they were expecting this spring – Jack was going to be a big brother! Rebecca was a little nervous that Brown Eyed Photography would be already in Vermont by the time Baby V.2.0 arrived. Fortunately, Will came a week and a half before our big move – at 40 weeks and 1 day, just like Jack.

Will looks so much like Jack sometimes with his almost red hair (I bet it will be blond like his brother) but he was super mellow baby in comparison to Jack. Awake the w-h-o-l-e time and just taking in the world. When we did some shots with his mom, Will’s whole face lit up with wonder. He’s lovin’ his Momma!

On the importance of professional newborn photography

Freshly born babies are unique. Unique to themselves but also unique in that the period of newborn is so very very tiny. Like new babies. In the first year babies go from lovely little lumps to crawling, smiling, drooling, eating, babbling, opinionated little people. It’s incredible.
And that new little lump holds all the wonder of its ancestors as well as all the promise of its future. Incredible. That tiny package that holds so much also happens to be one of the most precious things on the planet and it is my joy to capture.
These images are irreplaceable. Within weeks (never mind months or a year!) a new baby has transformed several times over. It’s difficult to remember what your 3 week old looked like before their eyes were open and gazing up at us regularly, before your 4 month old smiled at you just for coming close, before your one year old was decorating their hair with mashed food.
This is why professional newborn photography is important. To help you remember the wonder of those first weeks. The tiny curled body – that so recently was floating around inside your body – the soft wisps of hair, the unbelievably miniature fingernails … all of it!

p.s. Frankie, above, is a great example of what a baby who is days old looks like compared to how he looked at a year old! See? Amazing.

Baby Emma’s smile

Baby Emma invited me to her house again. She’s so adorable with her big grin – but even cuter? Her parents! They are so so so in love with their tiny baby. Shaye makes up Emma-specific jingles on the fly and Sal can hardly be distracted from interacting with his daughter. See? Cute, cute!

Thanks Emma for a wonderful session and thanks Shaye and Sal for another awesome excuse to hang out with you both! I’m already counting the days until Emma’s session in June!

Wide Eyed Baby Miriam

There have been a string of wide awake newborn babies recently and Miriam was no exception. Typically sleepy babies are the best but with Miriam – I’m so glad she kept those wide beautiful eyes open! It helps that she is one mellow baby!

Miriam’s parents said they wanted to remember how tiny her hands and feet are right now.

What a fun way to spend a late afternoon – thank you Nick and Heather for inviting me into your lives at this very special time. I enjoyed capturing Miriam very much – pee and all

Another Early Arrival

Cormac heard that Christian arrived early and not wanting to be outdone he was born 3 days later – also weeks before expected … in fact – about a week after MaryKate and Ciaran’s maternity session!

Couldn’t resist wrapping this baby up for some cozy newborn shots.

This new Momma and Daddy are so so enamored with their new baby.

I can’t wait to see all three of you (plus Quincy!) soon.

Merry Christmas

Putting this together made my heart go all soft inside. We’re so appreciative to all of you for a spectacular year! A lot of changes coming in the next year with our transition to Vermont and we’re excited about all that it will bring – getting to know you all better and forming new friendships in our new home state!
Thanks for a great year! Looking forward to capturing more memories with you in 2011!

Baby Roberta

I was so excited to go back and see the not so little homebirthed baby when she was a little less than a week old. Her name is officially Roberta Francis with rumors that she will be called Bobby but everyone seems to be calling her Roberta for now.
I fell in love with her pretty much the moment she was born and was so excited to see her again! Roberta’s momma was hoping for a very red-headed baby like Roberta’s big sister. On the day of her birth it was questionable but not so much at 5 days old!

Doesn’t it melt your heart?!?! Teeny tiny baby smile!!

Roberta’s momma is an amazing knitter – this is one of her creations and it makes me faint just a little for the cuteness!

If we’ve talked in the last week-and-a-half then you know – I was honored to be present at a birth almost two weeks ago (and I keep telling everyone!). Ariana invited me to her birth as a photographer/doula. I was honored. She checked and double checked that calling in the middle of the night was okay.
I reassured her that babies tend to come at night – I expect a call in the night!
And when the call came, it was like the world was taking in a deep breath to make room for this new little person.
This new person turned out to be not very little at all. Her mom was an inspiration for birthing moms everywhere! In the familiar surroundings of home on her parents bed, this beautiful baby made her entry – foot first!
An amazed momma and a proud big sister. A big sister who insisted that this baby was a girl when everyone else was guessing boy. This big sister is so so happy to have a baby sister!

The dedicated and competent midwife measuring this baby – the picture after the number was said of the momma was classic shock – who wouldn’t be after hearing 10lbs 8oz!

Proud big sister, supportive proud daddy, and happy peaceful momma.

Congratulations on Baby Girl who was going to be Roberta or Margaret when I left the family to get to know one another a little better.

Randy, Terry, and I had brief discussion during their maternity shoot about our upcoming trip to Vermont. You see, the baby was expected mid December and as we all know, first time parents tend to carry a little longer. I reassured them that even with upcoming week in Vermont I would still be around within the first few weeks of their baby’s life for pictures.
Ahem. Apparently Christian heard the discussion and decided to enter the world after his mom had her Thanksgiving fill, just to show that despite his status as the first baby in his family he was ready to greet the world!
