Wide Eyed Baby Miriam

There have been a string of wide awake newborn babies recently and Miriam was no exception. Typically sleepy babies are the best but with Miriam – I’m so glad she kept those wide beautiful eyes open! It helps that she is one mellow baby!

Miriam’s parents said they wanted to remember how tiny her hands and feet are right now.

Baby Roberta

I was so excited to go back and see the not so little homebirthed baby when she was a little less than a week old. Her name is officially Roberta Francis with rumors that she will be called Bobby but everyone seems to be calling her Roberta for now.
I fell in love with her pretty much the moment she was born and was so excited to see her again! Roberta’s momma was hoping for a very red-headed baby like Roberta’s big sister. On the day of her birth it was questionable but not so much at 5 days old!

Doesn’t it melt your heart?!?! Teeny tiny baby smile!!

Roberta’s momma is an amazing knitter – this is one of her creations and it makes me faint just a little for the cuteness!

If we’ve talked in the last week-and-a-half then you know – I was honored to be present at a birth almost two weeks ago (and I keep telling everyone!). Ariana invited me to her birth as a photographer/doula. I was honored. She checked and double checked that calling in the middle of the night was okay.
I reassured her that babies tend to come at night – I expect a call in the night!
And when the call came, it was like the world was taking in a deep breath to make room for this new little person.
This new person turned out to be not very little at all. Her mom was an inspiration for birthing moms everywhere! In the familiar surroundings of home on her parents bed, this beautiful baby made her entry – foot first!
An amazed momma and a proud big sister. A big sister who insisted that this baby was a girl when everyone else was guessing boy. This big sister is so so happy to have a baby sister!

The dedicated and competent midwife measuring this baby – the picture after the number was said of the momma was classic shock – who wouldn’t be after hearing 10lbs 8oz!

Proud big sister, supportive proud daddy, and happy peaceful momma.

Congratulations on Baby Girl who was going to be Roberta or Margaret when I left the family to get to know one another a little better.

Randy, Terry, and I had brief discussion during their maternity shoot about our upcoming trip to Vermont. You see, the baby was expected mid December and as we all know, first time parents tend to carry a little longer. I reassured them that even with upcoming week in Vermont I would still be around within the first few weeks of their baby’s life for pictures.
Ahem. Apparently Christian heard the discussion and decided to enter the world after his mom had her Thanksgiving fill, just to show that despite his status as the first baby in his family he was ready to greet the world!

Much to her momma’s surprise. It wasn’t that the baby had finally arrived (everyone was more than ready for this baby!) more that the baby was a girl. Often mom’s seem to have an idea of the baby’s gender (speaking of course of those who choose not to know during their pregnancy). I think of this as mother’s intuition. Josh thinks of this as a 50-50 guess. In this case I’m inclined to agree with Josh. Emma’s momma thought it was a boy but seeing Shaye interact with her baby …. there’s no doubt – this momma has heaps of intuition!
Remember Shaye and Sal? One laid back couple … blessed with the most wide awake baby I have ever worked with!

And if you remember the sunflower from Shaye’s maternity session … we had to bring that in again with Emma!

Shaye and Sal are one of the most in love parents I’ve seen! Every little noise, facial expression, and blink Shaye fell a little deeper for her daughter. Emma is one lucky baby and I think Shaye and Sal are feeling pretty lucky too.

I detest Christmas decorations in stores before Thanksgiving – never mind before Halloween!!
But… the planner in me knows that I needed to introduce holiday cards this early to give you time to decide which design you want to use and time to squeeze in a few mini-session days that will include holiday cards. That’s right, just like last year Brown Eyed Photography will be offering two dates for mini sessions … more info to come.

The brand new Elizabeth arrived in time to take advantage of this hot hot weather for her baby session. What’s more? She also came home to a house that has an even hotter enclosed porch with a window fan blowing out (read sound machine). I don’t think I could have designed a more perfect location if I wanted to!

Elizabeth’s parents, Tricia and Paul, were just as friendly and fun to spend time with as they were during their maternity shoot when they were worried the baby would come early… Tricia’s brother was married out west about two weeks before the baby’s estimated date of arrival! Tricia said at the time that she was thinking lots of: “take your time, baby!” thoughts… and it seems to have worked! Wedding travels happened and the baby stayed put until well after the wedding. She seems just as easy going as her parents.

Baby Frankie is 1!!

Teeny baby Frankie has turned into a walking toddler! Hard to believe he’s one and his First Year photo sessions are wrapped up!! Sheba and John have taken to this parenting thing like a a bee to flowers. I’ve enjoyed watching the growing of Frankie over the last year but also of Sheba and John in their new role.

Baby Brett has big Leo sized shoes to fill and so far he’s doing just fine! At 10lbs+ his natural birthing mama is justifiably riding that birthing high. Brett happens to be super adorable too!

one month old twins ~ Destination: Nairobi

These two sweet boys are learning that the world is big enough to accommodate their stretching limbs at one month old. The solution? We swaddle them and take their eyes-wide-open looking inquisitively at the world around them.

This family is only in the area for a limited time. The new parents flew stateside from Nairobi before the babies arrived on this side of the belly. All four family members will be flying back home very soon! I was so glad that we were able to connect before their journey!
